Yacht Deckhand - Introductory Deckhand Course

Course Duration: 3 Days

Interested in a job on a yacht with no experience? This entry level Deckhand course is a great introduction to working as a deckhand on a yacht.  It is designed for those interested in becoming a Deckhand on a private or charter yacht but are not sure how to best prepare or apply for a position. The course includes a basic overall introduction to working on yachts such as day to day expectations, tips on writing your resume, general terminology, a broad understanding of how a yacht operates and deck work.

You will also learn deck watchkeeping skills using our simulator. As a deckhand you will be expected to assist the Captain on the bridge with watchkeeping, anchor and port watches.

You can take the course along with our exclusive 2-day STCW basic training blended course (Hybrid - Online and 2-day practical training) and the required STCW Maritime Security online course (Personnel with Designated Security Duties).

What does the Deckhand course teach?

STCW Navigation Watch Rating (RFPNW)

Course Cost: $1100
Course Duration: 3 Days
Course Location: Orlando

The Rating Forming part of a Navigational Watch certificate is a common requirement for deckhand. The STCW USCG approved course will help you in your path in becoming a more seasoned deckhand. The course provides you with the knowledge and understanding of the duties and responsibilities of a yacht rating. The certificate acts as an official record of your experience which can be taken from ship to ship and will earn you a credit of 4 months sea time, counting in satisfying the full requirements of 6 months.

Assessment only: Mariners that successfully complete our Rating Forming Part of a Navigational Watch (RFPNW) Assessment that will satisfy the requirements of Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular No. 06-14.

Does this training give me any formal qualifications?

Yes, you will receive the STCW Deck rating qualification known as the rating forming part of a navigation watch. With this certificate you can be involved in watchkeeping duties in an official capacity.

Course Delivery

Online courses followed by 2 days in practical training (Fire Fighting, PST and First Aid/CPR).

STCW Basic Training is the required safety course for yacht crew. Our exclusive STCW Basic Training Blended Course comprises of 4 modules taken online followed by 2 Days of practical training. (Equivalent to the 5 day classroom/practical course).

Seven Seas Preparatory Academy offers an exclusive 2 Day STCW Basic Training Blended course (formerly the STCW Basic Safety Training Course as per STCW 95 & 2010). The STCW Basic course is a combination of online courses, covering the four parts of Basic Training, followed by 2 days of practical training. The practical portion covers Fire Fighting, Personal Survival Techniques, and Basic First Aid/CPR. The course is US Coastguard approved and recognized Worldwide.
